About

Active Youth Initiative for Social Enhancement, founded in 1995, is a Malawian non-partisan, non-religious non-governmental organization based in Bangwe, Blantyre. AYISE is also a voluntary membership organization for local youth who want to volunteer in their community.

At AYISE, we recognize that the problems facing Malawian youth today are complex. That’s why our organization takes a multi-objective approach to supporting youth and community development to achieve our mission: encouraging and enabling Malawian youth to contribute positively to the social, economic, and political development of their country.

Our objectives:

  1. Reduce transmission and mitigate impact of HIV
  2. Promote human rights and democratic principles, including child labour protection and gender equality
  3. Engage youth in the conservation and protection of the environment so as to address the impacts of climate change
  4. Provide opportunities for livelihood security and employment for youth
  5. Support low-income and disadvantaged youth in pursuing their education
  6. Improve communities’ access to clean water and sanitation processes and facilities
  7. Facilitate increased youth participation in the democratic process, building capacity of young people to take on leadership roles in their communities
  8. Coordinate volunteering, local philanthropy, and youth exchanges to further community development and intercultural learning

Our vision:

AYISE’s vision is a vibrant Malawian society free from chronic poverty, where human rights are respected and enjoyed by all, citizens are healthy, hardworking, self-reliant, peaceful, environmentally conscious and able to contribute towards national development.
